Each university/Department has its own requirement for preparing a Statement of Purpose, which is otherwise known as Statement of Intent, College application essay or simply essay etc. This SOP is a crucial admission document which makes or breaks an application. If the SOP is good, universities may overlook a few minor deficiencies and make a positive decision. At the same time, nothing can help a student, if the SOP is badly prepared, even if other aspects of the application are good enough.
When necessary, People Choice reviews the SOPs, evaluates the content, suggests changes and makes them (the SOPs) most effective for applicants’ purpose. This service is provided FREE OF COST.
People Choice has developed a complete ‘Application Support Kit’, which includes,
- SOP Guidelines
- SOP Dos and Don’ts
- Sample SOP
Like the Statement of Purpose, Recommendations play a key role in admission decisions.
People Choice makes a very careful assessment and suggests students on
- Who should recommend,
- What is the content of recommendations?
- What decisions are taken based on the content of recommendation,
- Which are the most effective recommendations?
- How many recommendations to be submitted etc. are the key aspects?
People Choice evaluates and (if necessary, helps edit) the recommendation letters to suit the requirement of universities and thus improve the overall application strength of students.
This service is provided FREE OF COST.

Indian students are always enterprising. With their keenness to explore new frontiers, they have embraced ‘Overseas Education’ strongly. Especially in the past decade, the number of Indian students going abroad to study has increased tremendously.
It will be exciting to note that India has sent the largest number of students to the USA, even during 2007-08, which makes this seventh year in a row. We have been sending the largest number of students from 2001-02 onwards. 94,563 students from India went to the USA during 2007-08
To UK, India has sent 23,835 students in 2007-08, which is only second to China.
For Australia, 63,604 Indian students went during 2007, which again is next only to China.
In other words, India is in the top two positions in sending its students to top destinations the world over.
What do they get out of an opportunity like this? Well there are, actually, many advantages that the Indian youth perceive in a foreign school experience.

The purpose of standardized tests is to give colleges a quantifiable method to evaluate all their applicants on an equal level. Comparison of grades received in courses or on exams is not always enough because different schools have different academic standards throughout the world. An admissions counselor/officer at a university has no way of determining how challenging the Calculus or Economics course you took was. By comparing your score on a standardized test to the score of another student who took the same standardized test, the counselor has a better idea of how the two of you compare.
Most standardized tests are designed to measure a student’s skills, rather than a student’s amount of knowledge. The questions in these tests evaluate your ability to solve problems, not your knowledge of facts (such as important historical dates, or parts of the human anatomy).
Most of the US colleges and universities require that all their applicants take one or more standardized tests. These tests include the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test), GRE (Graduate Record Examination), and GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test). Additionally, applicants who are not Americans are required to also take the TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) or IELTS.
International students applying for an undergraduate program (Associate and Bachelor’s degrees) will be required to take the TOEFL and the SAT tests. There are also many schools that will admit without the SAT score. Graduate students applying to an Arts, Engineeringor science program will be required to take the TOEFL and usually, the GRE. Graduate students applying to a business program and other management-related programs will be required to take the TOEFL and usually, the GMAT.
At the undergraduate level, some universities may ask for a good score in the SAT Subject Test. Likewise, some top schools may ask for GRE Subject score for admission purpose, in addition to SAT Reasoning and GRE General Tests respectively. More details on these specialized tests are given in the individual sections of the respective test.
A university in UK doesn’t require students to under go GRE for the admission into science or other masters programmes. But some top business schools like London School of Business (LBS), University of Manchester etc. might require students to submit GMAT scores . IELTS or TOEFL scores are accepted as a proof of English language proficiency (Please note that students with very good marks like 65% and above in English in their 10th and 12th standard might get an English requirement waiver from the universities)
Universities in Australia also follow the same pattern as their counter parts in UK in terms of standardized tests. Students are not require to undergo GRE for admission into Master’s level programmes. But some top business schools like Melbourne Business School require students to submit GMAT scores . IELTS or TOEFL scores are accepted as a proof of English language proficiency for University admission purposes (remember students with very good marks like 70% and above marks in English in their 10th and 12th standard might get an English requirement waiver) But it is mandatory to have a decent score in IELTS (usually above 5.5 bands, depending upon the level) in order to apply for Australian student visa.
